Landlords will now be required to have the electrical installations in their properties inspected and tested by a qualified individual and provide an electrical safety certificate for all private rented properties according to the new 2021 Electrical Safety Regulations.
Initially introduced in July 2020 for new tenancies, these rules will soon apply for existing tenancies from 01 April 2021 – failure to comply with these rules could see you facing a fine of up to £30,000.
These new electrical safety regulations require landlords to have their properties inspected and tested by a qualified person every 5 years and must provide a copy of the electrical safety report to tenants and to local authorities (if requested).
